Remisenpavillon, Affinghausen

Remisenpavillon, Affinghausen

Description

The Remisenpavillon complements a typical farm ensemble in the region of Lower Saxony. It takes up and continues the existing building lines respecting the traditions of scale and building materials. From afar the pavilion appears as a closed, massive cube. Drawing nearer, the delicate structure of the hole masonry becomes visible. The bricks for the building were recovered from the fire ruins of a farm house. The wood for the gates was obtained from an oak tree, which was struck by lightning.

Statement of the jury

For this congenial structure, recycled bricks, as well as wood from a tree that had been struck by lightning, were used – thus establishing a direct connection with the environment.
