AOZ Heidelberg

Description

Two architecture offices Schmucker & Partner and 12:43 Architekten where responsible for the redesign of the 1,400 m2 area. The special atmosphere is based on the combination out of an already existing split-level building with an industrial character together with space-forming furniture made out of oak wood, steel elements and details of brass. To counteract the common expression of a clinic, the architects chose an unusual material and colour concept.

Statement of the jury

This design concept, which is quite unusual for an eye clinic, combines space-defining solid-oak elements and steel supports and real-leather cladding into an elegant and extremely high-quality design that resembles an VIP lounge more than it does the waiting room and quiet area of a medical practice.
