Wael Shawky. Cabaret Crusades – Drawings

Description

This publication of the Kunsthaus Bregenz on the occasion of the exhibition “Wael Shawky” puts seven drawings of the artist into focus. In order to refer to the scenographic artist work and his processes to create his art – films with marionettes about the crusades as seen by the arabs – the drawings are turned into pop-up pages. In addition, there is a little illustrated booklet on the exhibition neatly nested in the inside of the cover. The whole concept pays tribute to the materials Shawky works with.

Statement of the jury

The three-dimensional presentation of the artist’s work in a pop-up book is as consistent as it is original. A brilliant idea that beautifully expresses the scenic intention of the drawings.
