„FRONT – HEIMAT“ Tirol im Ersten Weltkrieg

Description

The exhibition FRONT – HOMELAND at the Tyrolean State Museum deals with the situation and effects of the Italian mountain front that suddenly opened in 1915. The architecture of the eight themed sections builds on simple squared timber and panels combined on the basis of the changing geometrical ordering principles. The grammar of the design reacts to the historical facts, political aspects and human catastrophes with gaps, facets and deconstruction.

Statement of the jury

With its raw, puristic design vocabulary, materiality and the minimalistic colour, the exhibition formally underscores the harsh, dreary, improvised daily life of the soldiers at the front. A remarkable exhibition that does perfect justice to the topic precisely because of its restrained approach.
