Haus S – ein Mäander am Stadtpark von Gütersloh
Description
With a length of 35 m, the slips effectively into the large 2,000 sqm property. The architectural concept seems to meander: walls and ceilings fold around the premises. The building is not rooted into the ground and, therefore, appears to have a floating effect. It consists of a 3 m high glass façade that stretches out over the corners without any supports. Ceilings and walls are provided as a curtain wall with aluminium plates that run around the corners so that no parapet plates are necessary.
Statement of the jury
The continuous glass façade successfully mimics a seamlessly meandering ribbon that lends the house its distinctive form.
