XI’AN-To match its multibillion-yuan investment in developing Midwest Inland Port Financial Town – the largest metal-trading platform in Asia to date needed a sizable gesture. HALLUCINATE DESIGN OFFICE incorporated digital walls-a modern-day play on ticker tape-to “blur the boundaries between reality and imagination, modern technology and architecture”. Clad in lengths of customized extruded aluminium, the walls incorporate LED displays.

Statement of the jury

The persuasive combination of aluminium with analog and digital media creates a fascinating space that recalls the buildings on Times Square. The themes of metal and the financial centre concept have been incorporated into the design in an extremely sophisticated manner.
