Today more than ever, outstanding design means providing answers to the challenges of our time, promoting thinking in circular models and realising visions of a better world based on the design of actions. Sometimes it is only small changes or ideas that have a big impact, sometimes it is entire business models. The top-class international jury of the German Design Award honours these groundbreaking design achievements - and the German Design Award makes the design trends visible across all sectors in a glittering setting.

"Excellent Product Design", "Excellent Communications Design" and "Excellent Architecture": with these three thematic fields, the German Design Council honours groundbreaking products and innovative projects at the German Design Award. The award-winning products, concepts and implementations are presented every year in a special exhibition at the Museum Angewandte Kunst, Frankfurt am Main. On this occasion, the winners of the "Personality of the Year", "German Design Award - Newcomer" and "Public Choice Award" will also be presented.

The newcomer Finalists

 

Great talents require a forum! The newcomer award is a unique distinction for designers, who have attracted attention with their extraordinary achievements and creative talent. The renown and international publicity associated with the competition are valuable for the honoured young designers. Furthermore, the German Design Council offers all finalists a series of exclusive events where they have the opportunity to meet the foundation members, which include leading experts of the design-oriented industry.

The jury will provide a short statement to all »Gold« award winners. This will be published in the online gallery and at the exhibition next to the contribution and can be used by the award winners in their own communication. Winners of the »Gold« and »Winner« awards receive a clip about their project, which they can use for communication on their company website or on social media.

A prestigious award with history

 

The German Design Council, the expert for brand and design in Germany, bestows the German Design Award. Commissioned by the highest authority to represent new developments in the German design industry. Established on the initiative of the German Bundestag (the lower house of German parliament) as a foundation in 1953, it supports the industry in all matters consistently aimed at generating an added brand value through design. As a result, the German Design Council is one of the world’s leading competence centres for communication and brand management in the field of design. The exclusive network of foundation members includes in addition to designers and design associations, in particular the owners and brand directors of numerous renowned companies.
