Eröffnungsfeier für Aarhus – als Europäische Kulturhauptstadt

The opening of Aarhus 2017 featured 5,000 participants from Denmark. A 500 m procession carried six illuminated life-sized Viking ships and 4,000 hand painted LED lanterns through the historic streets. 80,000 spectators visited the three main sites featuring a poetic light design by Chris Moylan and programming by Matthias Schöffmann. Approximately 500 lighting fixtures were used to frame the spectacular show. Creative direction by Nigel Jamieson with battleROYAL, lanterns by Lantern Company.

Statement of the jury

This light installation on the occasion of the opening of Aarhus 2017 was staged for the benefit of both the media and the public. A spectacular event that impeccably combined tradition with modern technology.
