Syunkato Soba

Syunkato Soba

Description

Sophisticated simplicity: High quality materials were used unprocessed as much as possible to maximize the expression of the textures, strength and crudeness of the materials in the finishes. A pure space was pursued by using a straightforward expression of the aspects of each material. Excessive decoration was avoided, while focusing on choosing simpler and cruder materials. Impactful pillars made of bundles of sticks are designed for the façade in order to stand out from a crowded field.

Statement of the jury

The aesthetics underlying this simply decorated interior centres around the raw, authentic beauty of natural materials – which are arranged, along with atmospheric lighting, into a unique design that is readily recognisable and conveys a clear message.
