For a new building in a void within the “UNESCO World Heritage historic centre of Graz” we designed a façade of polished steel, which reproduces the characteristic appearance of the historical environment without imitating it. Vertically set windows emerge from slightly inclined triangular planes, whose cuttings connect the cornices of the neighbouring buildings. Optical refraction produces kaleidoscope-like images of the historical vis à vis aspects. Balconies and loggias create high quality living.
Rather than imitate the style of the façade of this landmark old-town building, the designer cleverly decided to clad the building with polished sheet metal that reflects the actual façade – to truly astonishing effect.
