Seashore Library

Description

The design focuses on exploring the co-existing relationship of the space boundary, the movement of human body, the shifting light ambience, the air ventilating through and the ocean view. In the seasons of spring, summer and fall, it serves the community residents from the west side, and is open to the public as well. It houses a reading area, a meditation space, activity room, a drinks bar and a resting area, where we establish distinctive relationship between space and the ocean.

Statement of the jury

This library is notable for a functional clarity that radiates calm and focus and that faces the sea. The wood used here forms a warm and inviting contrast to the building’s concrete, whereby the planking echoes the impressions made by the wood cladding in the cement, creating a thrilling effect.
