Tofana

Tofana

Description

In the demolition and reconstruction of the Hotel Tofana in S. Cassiano in Badia Valley (Italy) the mountain becomes an abstract conceptual inspiration for the entire architecture. The building becomes an integral part of the surrounding natural backdrops, whereby the compact building with its irregular, asymmetrically designed shape and the many edges acts like an upwards tapering rock formation.

Statement of the jury

This design was inspired by the aesthetic beauty of mountains, with their peaks of varying heights, their residual snow and their trees, and intelligently transposes this aesthetic into a contemporary look. The result is a characteristic building that blends seamlessly into the mountain panorama.
