Description
The new research and training centre was built on the Campus Lichtwiese of the TU Darmstadt. The project housed there – an interdisciplinary collaboration between the trades, industry and the university – aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by improving the interaction of machines, technical infrastructure and the building itself. Taking all of the subsystems into account, the utilisation of synergies is expected to offer potential optimisation of up to 40 %.
Statement of the jury
This building is notable for its unobtrusively simple and clear design. The front glass façade results in a building that seems open, congenial, functional and modern. The prism-like glass elements constitute a lovely design detail. A successful building that evokes interdisciplinary R&D and on-the-job training in a contemporary idiom.
