Stadt Offenburg

Stadt Offenburg

Description

A logo for the Offenburg City of Freedom: Offenburg played a decisive role in the fight for human rights and liberties during the German revolutions of 1848. Today, the city elevates this history to a position of central importance, both visually and verbally via its freedom logo with the moniker: Offenburg, “City of Freedom”. In 1847, the “Offenburger Programme”, a charter presented in the name of the people, outlined thirteen demands that are considered the foundation of present-day German democracy.

Statement of the jury

This logo, realised as document with curling edges, strikingly refers to the city’s role in enforcing freehold rights – which is in turn fleshed out by the Freiheits-Stadt (Freehold City) designation. A striking logo whose sculptural quality makes it even more eye-catching.
