Radioactive Live Soundscape

Radioactive Live Soundscape

Description

A microphone has been placed at the entrance to a forest in the exclusion zone surrounding the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. It is located at a distance of 10 km from the power plant. This allows us to hear the forest’s soundscape in real time, giving us an insight into the diversity of animal life present in it. The plan is to leave the microphone in place until the reactor decommissioning work has been completed, which started on March 11, 2011, following the area’s evacuation.

Statement of the jury

An exciting project that on one hand recalls the Fukushima disaster and on the other provides a fascinating view of nature and the changes wrought by the event.
