Kattau-Mühle

Kattau-Mühle

Description

When it comes to listed or historic buildings, the 100 year old Kattau-Mühle is definately “the” one for the city of Buxtehude, close to Hamburg and is one of the most important examples of architecture in the city. For the past 50 years, nothing was invested in the maintaince or preservation of the building. The almost forgotten and deteriorating building fortunately went through a complete restoration, always in very close co-ordination with the monument presevation office.

Statement of the jury

This sensitively executed renovation project not only saved the historic building in question here, but also repurposed it as an appealing commercial and residential space, without sacrificing the original character of this industrial landmark building.
