Modelia Days GOKOKUJI

Description

We gave lightness to heavy material such as concrete by gradually shifting the opening and to avoid having a view of surrounding residents. Furthermore, by tilting the side faces of the inside of the opening, we designed the façade to be lighter, and to have an appropriate connection with the outside from the internal space. On the side, galvanizing was partially lighter and a wooden frame was attached on the inside of the room to try to express a gentle connection with the outside.

Statement of the jury

The extremely widening escutcheons placed off to one side not only improve the view from the interior, but also allow more light into it – and at the same time endow the building with a striking appearance that is readily recognisable.
