Parabolid

Description

Hamanishi DESIGN completed a three-dimensional curved back that supports the body comfortably with only the rope, not common in the history of the chair. By using computer simulation, he verified the curvature of the back, the position of the hole, how to knit the rope in millimeters, so that he was able to be completed perfectly. It has been designed with a superb fusion of traditional shape and modern taste, and offers a new experience, like wrapping one’s back with ropes.

Statement of the jury

The sophisticated, curved back lends this otherwise simple wooden chair a special touch which clearly sets it apart. The braided back follows the natural curvature of the spine, allowing the Parabolid to provide very comfortable sitting.
