Children as key keepers, preserving heritage

Children as key keepers, preserving heritage

Description

Lots of churches in Groningen are abandoned. SOGK is a foundation that takes care of them and struggled with the question how to give the buildings new meaning to the villagers. We gave the churches back to their most important inhabitants, the children. We literally gave them the key of the front door. They became key keepers. The children have to work together in and around the church to find answers. Ultimate goal is to unlock the game church.

Statement of the jury

The development of this game was prompted by the dwindling number of churchgoers, a situation that is bringing many churches to the brink of closure. Given that the greatest deficit in church attendance involves the younger generation, this game is mainly aimed at children.
