Fassadengestaltung temporärer Parlaments-Pavillons am Heldenplatz in Wien

Fassadengestaltung temporärer Parlaments-Pavillons am Heldenplatz in Wien

Description

Carefully selected texts of the Austrian Federal Constitution, the Charter of Fundamental Rights, Human Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child are typographically arranged like strings of pearls which lay around the buildings. They are expanded in terms of content in yearly steps. Democratically won fundamental rights and socially agreed values are at the centre. The façades make visible what the Parliament is working for – on behalf of all citizens.

Statement of the jury

The idea of emblazoning this façade with selected quotes about democracy is already intriguing in and of itself. But the fact that the architectural execution of this project is no less impressive makes this project truly exceptional. A path features plaques that evoke the basic principles of democracy – a message that is aimed not only at the populace per se, but also at politicians and at all visitors from around the world.
