Misheel Expo is the head building of the exhibition centre of Ulaanbaatar, a urban landmark with retail spaces on the first two floors and a business hotel on the others. At the time of our involvement in the project the structure was already realized at 70 %. Our work has focused on facade and open spaces, incorporating some structural discontinuities in a new skin that has simplified the overall morphology of the building: matte gres porcelain, matt metal, transparent clear glass, opaque glass.
This design combines spaces of varying sizes into a sculptural structure. The pattern comprising light coloured vertical elements extending across the entire façade echoes traditional architecture with its exterior staircases and elevators. This visually arresting design gives the building an intriguing look that endows it with an identity all its own.
