West Terminal 2

Description

West Terminal 2 is a new ferry terminal situated on a narrow plot in the port expansion area at the southern tip of the new housing district in Helsinki’s West Harbour. Specific design targets were to enable faster embarkation and disembarkation of passengers, decrease the turnaround times of ferries in port, and to offer passengers safe, comfortable and pleasant lounge areas and other spaces. The façade materials are glass, concrete and sea aluminium.

Statement of the jury

What makes this design compelling is its open, generously proportioned design that’s also agreeably light and congenial. An elegant modern structure that evokes an airport terminal and that promises to be an equally pleasant place to spend time in.
