WindLab in Oldenburg

Description

The compact cubature is based on the concept of a closely networked research landscape. All of the functions are grouped around a light-flooded atrium. The external envelope is built of bright, slim bricks, and the wind tunnel in front has been finished with a fair-faced concrete façade. The ribbon windows feature folding and sliding shutters made from expanded metal shaped to resemble the flaps in the wind tunnel, thus establishing a connection with the research work.

Statement of the jury

A timeless contemporary design which honours the aspiration for a tightly networked scientific work approach whilst also subtly reflecting the respective research area with strikingly designed details.
