Kultureinrichtung Zinnschmelze – Umbau und Erweiterung

Description

The listed brick building in the Tin Smelter constructed in 1876 was entirely rebuilt, spatially restructured and expanded with the addition of a new building. This has the same cubic volume as the old building but the space is used quite differently. The existing building faces a building of dark brown copper. The metal extends over the roof and facade of the new building like a sheath and is in keeping with the industrial appearance of the former industrial site.

Statement of the jury

The cladding of dark brown copper is a harmonious interpretation of the original brickwork and creates an atmospheric ambience that is appropriate to the industrial character of the original, protected building stocks.
