Boombox House

Boombox House

Description

In Korea, in the late ’70s and early ’80s, the boombox was a familiar sound device that played radio and cassette tapes. When my school went on a picnic, some students brought a boombox, and we all shared loud music coming out of its speaker. Now they have become the main generation of a society that has families and raises children. Boombox House is a rental housing project that targets this specific generation.

Statement of the jury

The characteristically curved shape brings to mind the huge portable master-blasters of the 1980s with their integrated stereo speakers, which lends the design an unmistakeable identity.
