The New Glenstone

Description

First appearing as a cluster of simple masonry forms, varying in size and proportions and embedded in a rise in the land, the Glenstone Museum is organised as a ring of installation rooms surrounding a landscape water court. The museum has twelve rooms; ten of them will feature single-artist installations – one room features a rotating installation of works by artists represented in the Glenstone collection – and one room offers a framed view of the landscape.

Statement of the jury

The museum’s ensemble of buildings, consisting of many individual volumes, is based on a concept that is as simple as it is powerful with regard to its aesthetic and spatial impact. Each room has its own function and theme. At the same time, the water landscape in the centre is cleverly integrated into the overall architecture with its various masonry forms and proportion. A beautiful design that cleverly plays with the contrast between architecture and landscape and manages to combine both into a harmonious whole.
