The Birdyard Eatery & Bar

The Birdyard Eatery & Bar

Description

The Birdyard is based on three zones. Large storefront windows reveal a bright split-level bistro defined by white walls, black furnishings and rigid strip lighting. The kitchen is a stainless steel gastronomical laboratory. The subterranean bar has hand-painted murals of birds and foliage on a magnified scale. Back-lit surfaces are illuminated beacons in the dark. The bathrooms are divided by a freestanding curved wall clad in stone and mirror strips with a cylindrical stone basin.

Statement of the jury

The location creates its own unmistakable identity with its extensive murals of exotic colourful birds and plants in the basement. At the same time, the motifs create a dreamlike atmosphere, which is further enhanced by the subtle lighting. The linear, minimalist furnishing, in contrast, is elegantly understated. One nice detail is the massive stone washbasin in the sanitary area, which in combination with the curved, free-standing wall of stone and mirror strips conveys a feeling of exclusivity.
