Zechenland Ruhr

Description

In 2018, the last coal mine in the Ruhr area closed and thereby concluded a working-class history which has defined the whole region, its culture and its attitude. With this drawing book we aim to teach children about the history of mining in the Ruhr area without entangling ourselves in unnecessary details. Important facts are combined with fun activities, so children can learn whilst drawing, rather than losing interest after the second page.

Statement of the jury

Designed with love and carefully prepared with regard to its didactic aspects, this painting and drawing book makes a playful experience out of the history and culture of mining in the region, thus making a valuable contribution to preserving this central chapter of the history of the Ruhr in the cultural memory of future generations.
