Haus b, Stuttgart

Haus b, Stuttgart

Description

House b offers space for two children and two adults. The small plot area and a cultivation obligation divide the building into a free standing house with a roofed entrance zone as well as a garage and guest room. The house is built of solid wood. This has logistical and scheduling advantages in addition to ecological considerations. The vertical wooden formwork of the building shell is fired and oiled in the traditional Japanese way. The roof is largely covered with in-roof PV panels.

Statement of the jury

The side closed to the street, with its entrance and garage door, creates a distinctive silhouette that has an unmistakable appearance, with the vertical traditional Japanese-style cladding made from burned and oiled wood. On the other side, the ecological wooden house opens up nicely towards the garden.
