DAITA PROJECT

Description

The 16-unit complex is located in Western Tokyo in a hilly area dotted with L-shaped mansions and trees. Maisonette units face the street and are stepped in relation to the slope. L-shaped green openings emulate the surrounding green areas. Studios feature ceiling heights changing along the slope providing a diverse sectional space. Steps allow the spaces to be changed by the residents. A self-supporting wall can be used as a walk-in closet.

Statement of the jury

The characteristic green L-shaped protrusions and indents around the windows lend the façade a distinctive appearance and also create a connection to the surroundings.
