Description

Badya is a user-oriented, interconnected city in the western strategic urban expansion zone, calibrated for reduced emissions and designed to ease overstrained Cairo. Public spaces and living streets encourage activity and enhance quality of life, as well as the local climate, resilience and spare resources. From the master plan, planning of landscape, urban and transport design to climate-optimised architecture, the urban design vision is digitally developed and implemented.

Statement of the jury

The new urban area has been holistically planned with the goal of sustainably solving all the problems intrinsic to a city that has grown naturally over generations. There is no question that the project represents a massive challenge in every respect – whether formal, technological, strategic or cultural – and deserves the greatest respect.
