Caserne Saint Didier – transformation & rehabilitation

Caserne Saint Didier – transformation & rehabilitation

Description

Our agency was able to transform the Caserne Saint-Didier, the former headquarters of the National Gendarmerie, dating from 1896, into a housing complex that incorporates 200 dwellings, including family homes, rentals and student apartments. A nursery with 60 places, a shop and two gardens complete the project situated in the heart of the XVIth arrondissement of Paris.

Statement of the jury

The way the design succeeds in combining the historic building fabric with the clear stylistic idiom of modern architecture to create a striking building with its own unmistakeable identity is impressive. An interesting detail is the historic pattern that forms an original contrast to the modern façade in the inner courtyard.
