Description

The collective taking of meals has always been asso- ciated with a particular importance. Thus refectories are central places of exchange and conversation, as well as for contemplation and reflection. With the new refectory a place with strong identification has been created, which offers appropriate surroundings for the ritual of the common meal and spatially as it socially now plays a central role in the everyday life of the Theological Center of the Protestant Church in Wuppertal.

Statement of the jury

Although the focus was obviously on functionality in the stripped-down design of this building, the outer appearance of this very contemporary architecture is strikingly incisive. The interior is pleasantly bright, with an overall friendly, inviting atmosphere despite its puristic design.
