Krieg – Eine archäologische Spurensuche

Description

“War – Decoding its Archaeological Traces” is an exhibition in the State Museum of Prehistory, Halle. What is war? Since when have wars been waged? Important aspects of the archaeological exploration of the phenomenon of war are highlighted by this exhibition. “The Origin of War” spans the period from early civilization to the Bronze Age. “The Battle of Lutzen” sheds light on one of the biggest battles in the Thirty Years’ War and focuses on an anti-war monument: the salvaging of a mass grave. The campaign combines the power of the word with archaeological artefacts to create a key motif.

Statement of the jury

The sword blades arranged in a corona, together with the striking colouring and the word “WAR” highlighted in this incisive manner, generate a martial aesthetic that reflects the theme perfectly in high-profile form.
