Interview

What are the advantages and disadvantages of working as an industrial designer? One crucial advantage is the fact you can work on things in an interdisciplinary way. After all, the interaction of different specialist fields often spawns innovative ideas for projects that are well worth realising. One clear disadvantage: the difficult working conditions for designers. The unstable financial status of the profession leads to another difficulty: given the financial constraints it’s hard to do justice to your own principles.

In your opinion, what is perfect industrial design? Perfection is first achieved in designing a product or, so I believe, when the aesthetic, function and symbols harmonise and there is no longer any need to change something.

How would you describe the style of the design of your own works? My design style is characterised above all by an analytical approach that focuses on the process involved. In my work I do not cling dogmatically to a specific formal idiom. Instead I seek to tackle a project in as unprejudiced a manner as possible because this enables me to realise the respective specifics optimally.
