**Radhaus

Description

With the second **Radhaus, the demand for secure, weather-protected storage facilities close to the main station area was taken into account. A leftover urban site between a footpath, steps and ramp had already been developed on all sides, yet offers space for 200 bikes. The steel-girder construction, simply clad with expanded metal, and the expressive shape bestow the “bike shed” with the motif of dynamism and movement, enriching Erfurt with a symbolic piece of urban architecture.

Statement of the jury

**Radhaus is a readily accessible covered parking area located near the train station. The facility is mainly intended for bicycles, but can also be used for related items such as bike child trailers. By providing such a facility, the city is sending an important signal concerning the importance of alternative, eco-friendly and thus modern mobility – and helping to raise awareness of these issues.
