It was never an option to give up the church Christuskirche. It always had a solid position in the community. The apartments, the commercial area and the new church nave give the place a new future. The historic church tower is framed by powerful flanks. The perceptibility is versatile due to the building’s rhythmically perforated openings and depressions. Light and height, space and opening bring us a little closer to God in this new church. What one believes in, the other may feel here.

Statement of the jury

This design intelligently connects historical architecture with a modern design aesthetic, and in so doing creates a unique building complex with a fascinatingly multi-facetted design. A strong solution, one that combines the new and old and that points optimistically to the future.
