The Face of Recycling

Description

The metal recycling facilities are in a dense urban area in Innsbruck, making the mitigation of sound emissions the main challenge. This is solved with an S-shaped roof with multiple folds, while the top edge leans backwards to reduce shading and enables outside work during cold months. The focus on small enterprise and private customers led to the spatial configuration of a drive-through business. Utmost attention was paid to smooth traffic, trading, material manipulation and logistic operations.

Statement of the jury

This technically advanced structure not only provides acoustic insulation, but also allows for trouble-free operation. An intriguing project that also endows the company with an aesthetic identity.
