The Retreat, Lefkada

Description

The Retreat is a 525 sqm five bedroom family dwelling located on the island of Lefkada in Greece. The property nestles into the steeply sloping site, which falls away from protected forest to its west down to a secluded beach and the sea to the east. The house is set around a courtyard garden on the upper level with glazed pavilions and rooms buried into the hillside. Further living and bedroom spaces are buried into the hill on the lower level opening up to an infinity pool overlooking the sea.

Statement of the jury

The sympathetically-integrated hillside house blends harmoniously into the landscape despite its size and therefore only has a minimal impact on the surroundings. The distribution of the building into several volumes creates lots of window space to offer plenty of different views.
