Ellgass Allgäu Hotel
Description
On a traditional Allgäuer village square, a simple building, inspired by the agricultural context, is set to the original location of the rural barn. The heritage-protected main building and the new accommodation wing complement each other to form a beautiful ensemble of buildings. The new building delicately adopts the proportions and materiality of the original farm building, building on a clear rectangular floor plan and simple saddle roof construction, thereby preserving the rural scale.
Statement of the jury
The new construction’s form blends into the existing architecture. At the same time, it looks very modern with its distinctive facade structure and creates its own highly-recognisable identity. A flat intermediate building connects the two equally large volumes to form a harmonious and coherent ensemble.
