Central Plaza

Description

Central Plaza, a fresh new vision of contemporary modernisation design in Shanghai, presents its renovated public spaces opposite the iconic Shanghai Grand Theatre at People’s Square. The 95-m high, 23-floor retail and office building, 20 years later, had lost its edge, was outdated and in dire need of reactivation. The newly designed Central Plaza, which is LEED Gold certified, provides modern office spaces as well as space for retail, food and beverages.

Statement of the jury

The design comes across as extremely modern and high quality thanks to the sophisticated lighting concept and the use of aluminium and stainless steel. The horizontal lines of the entrance area anticipate the architectural structure of the building. The white aluminium surfaces make the interior look incredibly bright, with black accents creating an exciting contrast. Interestingly perforated light panels give the design of the office areas an atmosphere of their own.
