Glashütte Alt-Stralau

Glashütte Alt-Stralau

Description

On behalf of a housing collective, the former workshop building from 1923 was converted for communal living. The listed building’s historic fabric was carefully renovated and restored to reflect its original form. Additions such as the one-sided roof extension and new balconies are contrasted in terms of their materials. Inside, the building’s steel structure is still visible. The glassworks therefore recalls earlier times both inside and out, and adds a distinctive feature to the new district.

Statement of the jury

The historical existing building was carefully renovated and maintained as cultural heritage. The modern elements that have been added create an exciting contrast and the concept as a whole looks consistent, balanced and harmonious both inside and out.
