Hof am Niederrhein
Description
A listed farmhouse was transformed into a modern residential building with three moods: the classic manor house, a remise with a large overhead space and saddle roof – with wood, concrete and clay plaster – and a new level, with cedar wood, white marble and carpet flooring. Most challenging was the cautious renovation of the main building. Much of the existing inventory, including the first floor tiles, were retained. High quality and sustainable materials bring the individual floors together.
Statement of the jury
The interior is highly successful in highlighting the historic architecture while nevertheless remaining extremely modern and exclusive. Many beautiful details, consistent forms and colours in combination with high-quality materials and surfaces are impressive proof for outstanding handling of protected building fabric.
