Description

The house is nestled on the top of a hill with distant views of Japan’s iconic peak of Mount Fuji. The architectural layout make it possible to block distracting structures from field of view, drawing exclusive focus on the majestic nature. A celebrated hallmark of Japanese sukiya architecture is the beauty of continuous eaves. We adapted the traditional design of continuous eaves in a modern way, maintaining their sharp, delicate beauty while boldly adopting new materials in their structure and finish.

Statement of the jury

The design for this house adheres consistently to traditional Japanese architecture. The result is a timelessly elegant building that is formally convincing down to the final detail, which is in accord with its natural surroundings and emits a high degree of calm and harmony.
