Konstantin Grcic represents the undogmatic contemporary German design throughout the world in an unparalleled manner and the jury of the German Design Award 2016 has honoured this achievement by selecting the Munich-based designer for the Personality distinction. Konstantin Grcic is considered as one of the most important designers of our times. Born in 1965, first he completed a carpentry apprenticeship at the John Makepeace School in Dorset, England, and then finished a degree in design at the renowned Royal College of Art in London. 1991 he founded his atelier Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design (KGID) in Munich. His projects have received international awards and have been displayed in notable design collections throughout the world and include acclaimed projects such as the “Mayday” lamp for Flos or the chair “Chair One” for Magis. Grcic’s unconventional design language is characterised by a great interest for innovative materials and technology in furniture construction and has influenced an entire generation of young designers in Germany.
