Haus des Markscheiders
Description
An “Markscheider” (underground surveyor) is a special surveyor who works in mines. The asymmetrical shape of the room in the house is an interpretation of a mine. The resulting high room is divided by a sculpturally shaped and suspended gallery level. This gives rise to an exciting and dynamic spacial structure. The large terrace in front is reminiscent of a stage and lends the interior a generous depth.
Statement of the jury
An unusual house that incorporates the archaic forms of the mining industry and skilfully translates them into contemporary residential architecture.
