Details
In this reconstructed "Toji" inn in Yufuin, the kitchen acts as a "Commons" connecting guests and the town. Matching adjacent eave heights creates a human-scale landscape. Prompted by the Kumamoto earthquake and labor shortages, an innovative RC rigid core handles horizontal loads while timber supports vertical ones. This hybrid structure eliminates timber shear walls, cutting construction time by 3 weeks. A semi-passive system manages the local climate, preserving authentic healing culture.
