Zwampen and Spore

Details
This project explores how fungi can shape sustainable design by growing furniture from a blend of spores, wood shavings, flour, water, and time. The fungal network binds these ingredients into lightweight yet durable forms, creating pieces that are as much grown as designed. Inspired by biomimicry, the furniture follows the mushroom’s own soft geometries and biological logic. The Spore Stool and Zwampen Armchair sequester carbon during growth and return nutrients to the soil at the end of life. A circular, low-tech design that transforms overlooked byproducts into living furniture for learning, reflection, and ecological engagement.
