Details
Beacon is a tangible light object designed to address key accessibility barriers on a crowded dining table in restaurants—from accessing digital menus to interacting with servers. Blind and low-vision (BLV) diners often struggle to locate and scan QR code menus or signal for assistance without relying on eye contact. Beacon standardizes QR code placement and guides BLV diners to scan the QR code easily via its ergonomic and tactile shape, and empowers greater independence with a discreet flip-to-signal feature to call for assistance from servers.
The Jury‘s Statement
A fascinating light object that, through its precise haptics and subtle signaling, enables a self-determined dining experience. »Beacon« impresses with its sophisticated form, clearly structured QR code scanning, and a harmoniously integrated flip-to-signal function. The consistently inclusive approach, combined with high functionality, makes this project a striking example of outstanding quality at the highest level.
