Fauvism emerged from a movement within the French avant-garde at the beginning of the 20th century. The roots of Fauvism stem from Impressionism, but the aim was to work against the fleeting nature of Impressionist paintings in order to give the work more permanence. An important characteristic of Fauvist painting was the colourfulness of the pictures. I incorporated this colourfulness into the design of the book by assigning each chapter its own colour. All four colours are then used alternately on the main subject pages in the text section, thus illustrating the colourful character of Fauvism.
